Whip Sound Effects

Whip sound effects of both kinds, the leather and the whoosh. Real whips sit in the weapon foley next to knives and axes, ready for a lion tamer or an adventurer swinging across a gap. The other kind is far more common. Whip-bys and quick swipes made from golf clubs, fishing poles, cloth and swords.

A real whip crack is a tiny sonic boom, made when the tip moves faster than sound. The whips here come from weapon foley, with chains, swords and pirate weapons close by for fight scenes. The rest is air. A whip-by is the fast, tight end of a Whoosh, the sort that suits a camera whip pan, a punch or a title sliding in, and the libraries build them from real objects swung through the air, some bent through tape or recorded underwater. Paired with a Swing, a whip-by gives a sword cut extra speed. Motion graphics and fight scenes are where they earn their keep.
