Coast Sound Effects

Coast sound effects from shorelines that all sound a bit different. Waves lapping on sand and dragging back over stones, swells crashing on rocks and slapping round a pier, wind howling off a headland with sheep somewhere behind it. Calm days and rough ones. Some go underwater, and some wander into harbours and seaside villages.

A coast is mostly about what the water hits. Sand gives a soft rush and a long hiss as the Foam pulls back, while rock throws the spray up with a boom. Between them, these libraries cover all of that, recorded at different distances so the sea can sit right up front or far behind the dialogue. Wind matters as much. Exposed headlands and old wartime bunkers bring a colder, emptier feel, and harbour recordings add boats and people. Calmer water sits in Lapping. Films use coasts for arrivals and endings, and games use them to tell you the map ends here.
