The South Downs in England is a huge range (260sq miles) of Chalk hills that covers a large amount of the southern coast of the UK. Known for it’s beautiful open fields and rolling hills, it’s a picturesque location that has influenced many, from painters to film makers.
This library has been a pet project of mine for a while now, since there are so many unknown pockets in the south downs far away from any roads, towns and people. I have been seeking these places out and capturing the pure sound these places provide.
This is Volume 1 of what I hope will be a fruitful project, as I want to capture the South Downs throughout the seasons. What you’ll find here is a selection of tracks that you will hopefully enjoy using and listening to as much as I did recording them.
The main setup for this collection was a pair of DPA4060‘s running into a Shure FP24 (the original analogue Mix Pre, when Sound Devices originally released it, they used Shure to distribute it across the UK).
I also had with me a Sony M10 which is featured in a couple of tracks where the small size was needed to get into nooks and crannies.
All files are .wav recorded at 96khz 24bit.
