Wind Sound Effects

Wind sound effects from a gentle breeze to a howling gale. Wind whistling down corridors, moaning round corners, rattling old windows and slapping the rigging on a boat. There's designed wind too, for spells and for horror. Some of it is barely there. Some of it takes the roof off.

Wind is really the sound of whatever it hits. A gust through pine needles hisses, while the same gust past a window frame whistles. The libraries here cover outdoor and indoor wind, some of it recorded in corridors and on boats, so you can pick the surface as much as the strength. For a storm, layer a Gust over steady wind and bring in Rain and Thunder as it builds. In a forest, it's the wind that makes the trees creak and sway. Quiet wind does as much work as loud wind, because it tells you how exposed a place is.
