Indicator Sound Effects

Indicator sound effects, the tick of a car waiting to turn. Every car has its own, from the heavy relay clunk of an old classic to the soft electronic click of a modern dashboard. Recorded inside real cars and vans, often with the stalk flicked on and off. Tiny sound. It does a surprising amount of storytelling in a quiet car scene.

An indicator is a clock inside a car. In a quiet scene it marks time while someone sits at a junction deciding what to do, and the audience counts along. The vehicle libraries here record the whole car, so the indicator comes from the same cabin as the Handbrake and the Wiper, and everything matches. Old cars tick slower and heavier than new ones. A van sounds different again, with more rattle around it. Some recordings were made while driving, so the tick sits inside the road noise the way it would on screen. Driving games use them for cockpit detail. Dramas use them at the lights, for tension.
