Bone Sound Effects

Bone sound effects for breaks, crunches and the nasty snap that makes an audience wince. Most of it comes from fight and gore work: punches that land on something hard, limbs bending the wrong way, skulls meeting the floor. There's drier, clattering bone for horror and fantasy creatures too. Grim stuff, for fights and horror alike.

Real bones are rarely the source. The crack in a film is often celery, carrots or dry spaghetti, twisted close to the mic and layered with something wet. That's why bone sits so close to Gore and Flesh: the snap on its own sounds like a twig, and it needs the squelch around it to read as a body. In fight libraries the bone is often already baked into the hit, a punch with a crunch on the tail, ready for a finishing move. For cleaner, isolated snaps, Bone Break has more. These turn up in horror films, brawlers and survival games.
