Footstep Sound Effects

Footstep sound effects on just about every surface going. Wood, gravel, carpet, leaves and concrete, in trainers or heavy boots. Some are recorded on a foley stage, clean and close, ready to drop under any character. Walking pace to flat out. And the careful creep of someone who really shouldn't be there.

Footsteps tell you who someone is before they say a word. Heavy boots or heels clicking down a corridor. Pace and surface change the sound completely, so many of these libraries record each surface in several shoe types and at different speeds, from a slow Walk to a flat-out Run. Variation matters more than anything. In a game, the same step repeated is the fastest way to break the spell, which is why the bigger sets have lots of takes of every movement. Add a Scuff on the turns and a little cloth on top, and the character starts to feel like they're really there. Fantasy creatures and soldiers in full kit have their own steps too.
