AVIATION SFX is a collection of real aircraft, each one identified by make and model rather than filed under a generic label. Panavia Tornado fighters landing in formation, Lockheed C-130 Hercules taxiing and taking off, an Alenia C-27J Spartan running its engine check, Airbus and Boeing airliners on approach, a Gulfstream APU spinning up, and helicopters from a Bell AB-412 to a Boeing CH-47 Chinook.
That specificity is the point. When a picture editor asks for a Tornado and not just “a fighter jet”, or when a supervisor needs a turboprop that actually sounds like a P-180 Avanti, a library full of unnamed jet passes is no help. Every file here carries the aircraft type in its name and metadata.
The library also goes beyond the flyby. Alongside passes and approaches you get startup sequences, idle, taxi, takeoff rolls, thrust reverse on landing, tyre friction on asphalt, a missed approach and an APU run – the ground states that build a believable airfield scene and that most aviation libraries skip. Several passes were captured binaurally with in-ear microphones, giving true head-related movement across the stereo field as the aircraft crosses overhead.
Perspective: these are exterior, observer-distance recordings made outdoors. Natural airfield ambience – distant birdsong, occasional traffic and faint background activity – is audible in some takes, as is normal for location recordings of this kind.
Inside the Collection
The library is organised into UCS-compliant categories to streamline your workflow:
• Military Aircraft (22 files, 28m) – The core of the library. Panavia Tornado fighters in ten takes: single and three-ship landing flybys, formation passes and formation takeoffs. Alenia C-27J Spartan binaural engine check and takeoff, landing flyby with thrust reverse and tyre friction, and a missed approach. Lockheed C-130H and C-130J Hercules landing, taxiing and taking off. Airbus A400M landing flybys, including a binaural take. Aermacchi MB-339 jet trainer landing.
• Jets & Airliners (10 files, 14m) – Boeing 737-800, 737 MAX 8-200 and 767-200 on takeoff and approach, Airbus A320 reducing power at altitude and A321 landing, a Cessna Citation 525 binaural takeoff, a Gulfstream G650 landing, and an eight-and-a-half minute Gulfstream G450 sequence covering APU, engine start, idle and taxi.
• Helicopters (5 files, 10m) – Bell AB-412 startup and idle, AgustaWestland AW139 startup and takeoff from a helipad, AW139 flyby landing and passing, and a Boeing CH-47 Chinook landing flyby.
• Propeller Aircraft (7 files, 5m) – Piaggio P-180 Avanti in five takes – high-speed low passes, a clean left-to-right stereo pass and landings – plus a Beechcraft B200C Super King Air and an Embraer EMB-121 on approach.
