A good thud is mostly low end and very little tail. Layer a dull Strike under a crack and it reads as a hard blow, and on its own it's closer to a fall. Fight libraries cover punches and bodies dropping, and some sit next to cloth movement and whooshes so a whole Melee exchange can come from the same library. Rock and snow impacts give a heavier, earthier hit. Horror and cinematic libraries add designed hits for when the thud needs to be bigger than life. In a scene, a thud tells you weight: a boulder landing, or a body that isn't getting up.
