Sputter Sound Effects

Sputter sound effects for engines that don't quite want to run. Antique engines chug, crank and pop, with gears and clicks going on around them. Proper old machinery. Next to them sit car and motorbike engines recorded inside and out, retro spaceship engines idling and passing by, and the wet kind of sputter, bubbles and fizz recorded above and under water.

A sputter is an engine misfiring, a cough and a pop where the next stroke should be. The antique engine recordings are the heart of it: chugs and pops from old engines, plus the gears and small clicks around them, which suits a farm or a steampunk machine room. The road vehicles add start-ups and idles, with Deceleration close by for an engine running down. Retro spaceship engines give the sci-fi version, idle loops and passbys for fighters and cargo ships. Bubbles recorded above and below the water cover the liquid kind of sputter, from a blocked pipe to a pot on the boil.
