Mountain Sound Effects

Mountain sound effects for big, open places. Wind tearing across a ridge or barely moving the pines. Streams tumbling down rocky valleys, with waterfalls in the distance. Birds waking up in the forest at dawn. Skis carving down an alpine slope. A long way from anywhere.

Mountains are mostly wind and water, and both change with height. Up high, wind has nothing to slow it down, so it howls and gusts. Lower down, it moves through trees as a softer roar, and streams take over as the main bed. The recordings here cover that whole climb, from raging gusts to gentle breezes in the trees, with mountain Stream and River recordings at different distances. Dawn birds bring the forest to life in spring. Ski recordings add people to the slopes. For a big landscape shot, layer distant water under the wind and keep it sparse. Mountains feel huge when they feel empty.
