Gate Sound Effects

Gate sound effects for castles and creaky old gardens. Big medieval gates grind open before a battle, slow and heavy, while rusty metal gates squeak on their hinges until the latch drops with a clang. Some were recorded with contact microphones. Every groan in the metal comes through. The modern side has sliding doors and garage doors too.

A gate tells you about the place behind it. A heavy castle gate is all weight and wood, slow to move and booming when it shuts, and the medieval libraries bring the siege side with a Battering Ram at work. A metal garden gate is lighter and squeakier, with a Hinge that complains and the clang of a Latch at the end. The contact microphone recordings get right inside the metal, which suits horror and slowing down into something bigger.
