Door Sound Effects Recorded by a Working Hollywood Sound Editor
Coll Anderson is a Supervising Sound Editor and Re-Recording Mixer with over 30 years of credits including Barbie (2023), The Whale (2022), mother! (2017, Darren Aronofsky), Noah (2014), The Fog of War (2003, Oscar-winning Errol Morris documentary), Black Swan, Martha Marcy May Marlene, Match Point, Dead Man (Jim Jarmusch), How to Blow Up a Pipeline, and The Jinx (HBO). He doesn’t record sound effects libraries to sell them – he records what he needs for the projects he’s cutting. This collection exists because, after three decades of post-production work, his personal door recordings had grown into something worth sharing.
That distinction matters. These aren’t sounds recorded in a controlled booth with a checklist. They’re recordings made by someone who knows exactly what a re-recording mixer needs when they’re trying to match a door to picture at 2am – the right weight, the right resonance, the right perspective. 2,125 files across dozens of real-world locations, materials, and mechanisms, all captured at 96kHz/24-bit using Schoeps and Neumann microphones with M/S stereo technique.
What Door Types Are Included?
The scope is what sets this door sound effects library apart. This isn’t a set of generic open-close-slam recordings. It goes deep into specific doors, specific spaces, and specific mechanical behaviours that you’d normally have to go out and record yourself.

Wood doors (202 files) – Victorian creaks in dozens of variations, old farmhouse board doors with iron latches recorded at soft, medium, and hard force levels, hollow core doors, humid-day squeals, threshold creaks, and the kind of slow horror creaks that actually work in a mix.
Metal doors (106 files) – Brutal steel door screams, spring-loaded hinges, loft doors with spring mechanisms, freight elevator gates with manual slide and rattle, metal cage doors, cruise ship stateroom doors with that heavy metallic thunk and latch action.
Sliding doors (68 files) – Patio glass, barn doors, pocket doors, closet sliders. Multiple force levels and perspectives.
Creaky doors (54+ files) – Classic horror creaks, long drawn-out groans, spring mechanisms, and squeals. If you’re cutting anything that needs tension from a door, start here.
Appliance doors (42 files) – Refrigerators, freezers (with seal breaks and jar rattles), ovens (with spring creaks and baking sheet handling), microwaves, dishwashers, washing machines. Each recorded with multiple open-close variations at different force levels.
Vehicle doors (42 files) – Car, SUV, van, truck, and trunk. The kind of recordings you reach for constantly and never have enough variations of.
Door hardware (39+ files) – Latches, locks, hotel card key systems, electronic code locks, safety chains, peephole covers. The small mechanical details that sell a door performance in close-up.
Gates and fences (34 files) – Chain link doors, creaky metal gates with chain rattle, hand hits on rolled chain link fence. Real locations, real rust, real weight.
Screen doors (32 files) – An extensive set. Spring-loaded, wooden frame, aluminium.
Knocking and pounding (25 files) – Different door materials, different intensities, different fist-to-door contact.
Aircraft doors (24 files) – Piaggio Aero P180 Avanti II airplane, recorded from both interior and exterior perspectives in mono and stereo, including the folding stairs deployment and cabin drawer mechanisms. Good luck finding that anywhere else.
Glass doors (21+ files) – Glass panel doors, shower doors, patio glass, office glass doors.
Train and subway doors (18 files) – The pneumatic hiss-and-thunk that defines public transport worldwide.
Cabinets and lockers (16+ files) – Medicine cabinets, kitchen cupboards, bedroom wardrobes with hanger rattle, school lockers at close, medium, and distant perspectives.
Bus doors (12 files), plastic doors (12 files), hydraulic/pneumatic doors (11+ files), electronic/hospital automatic doors, plus doorbells (house and NYC apartment), saloon-style swinging doors on spring, steamer trunk latches, store door bells, skylight hinges, foot-operated garbage cans, and garage doors.
How Many Variations of Each Door Are Recorded?
This is where the library earns its weight. You’re not getting one version of each door. Recordings are captured at different force levels (soft, medium, hard), from different distances, and in different acoustic spaces. NYC apartment doors come with hallway perspectives, push bar roof doors, and electronic lock actions. Locker rooms are recorded at close, medium, and distant positions. Ovens include the spring creak, the baking sheet rattle, and the seal. That means you can match perspective and intensity to picture without having to fake it.
What Equipment and Specifications Were Used?
Every file is delivered as a WAV at 96kHz/24-bit in a mix of mono and stereo, recorded with Schoeps and Neumann microphones using M/S stereo technique. Full embedded metadata is included for integration with your asset management workflow. Approximately 17 GB total.

Who Is This Door Sound Effects Library For?
If you’re cutting a horror film that needs a slow creak with actual character, designing UI feedback from latch clicks, building out an interactive game environment that needs dozens of distinct door sound effects, or filling gaps in a post-production session where the production audio just didn’t capture the door cleanly enough – this gives you range and quality from someone who’s been solving those exact problems on real projects for over 30 years.
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes 2000 Doors different from other door sound effects libraries?
These recordings come from the personal collection of Coll Anderson, a working Hollywood Supervising Sound Editor with credits on Barbie, The Whale, mother!, and The Fog of War. They were recorded for real post-production work using Schoeps and Neumann microphones at 96kHz/24-bit – not purpose-built to fill a catalogue.
What sample rate and bit depth are the recordings?
Every file is 96kHz/24-bit WAV, giving you clean source material with plenty of headroom for processing, pitch-shifting, or layering.
Can I use these door sounds in commercial projects?
Yes. All sounds are royalty-free forever under the Sonniss licence. Use them in films, games, TV, ads, apps – no recurring fees, no per-project charges.
What microphones were used?
Schoeps and Neumann microphones with M/S (mid-side) stereo recording technique, decoded into discrete left and right channels. This is the same methodology Anderson uses on his film work.
Is embedded metadata included?
Yes. Full embedded metadata is included in every file for seamless integration with asset management systems like Soundminer, BaseHead, and Reaper.
