Exhaust sound effects from the back end of anything with an engine. Muscle cars and supercars barking through their pipes, and motorbikes crackling and popping on the overrun. Then a fighter jet hovering and blasting hot air at the tarmac. Some of it is the other kind of exhaust entirely, the extractor fans and building vents that push stale air out of a room and hum away all day.

The exhaust is where an engine gets its voice. Under the bonnet you hear the machinery. Out the back you hear the bark, and a low rumble that tells you how big the engine is. Plenty of vehicle libraries record both with separate microphones, and the exhaust side is usually the one you push up for a chase or a pass-by. Layer it with an Engine Rev for a standing start, or follow it through an Acceleration run. On the Driving side, a pass-by with the exhaust facing the microphone sounds noticeably angrier. Racing games live on this stuff.
