Character Sound Effects

Character sound effects for bringing someone on screen to life. Cartoon voices laughing and screaming, and game characters chattering in made-up beeps instead of words. Then everything they wear and walk on: armour, clothing, zips and footsteps on metal. Robots clank about too. A character is the sum of these little sounds.

A game character needs a lot of sounds that all agree with each other. The voice libraries give you a full range of reactions from the same performer, so a Laugh and a yelp of Pain sound like the same person. Synthesised bit-speak is the clever option for Dialogue in games that don't want voice acting, with distinct characters built from beeps. The movement side matters as much, armour and fabric rustling as the character moves, and footsteps matched to their weight. Anime and cartoon sets push everything bigger. Platformers and animated shorts need a whole cast of these.
