Axe Sound Effects

Axe sound effects for both ends of the job: chopping and fighting. The whoosh before, the thunk after. On the weapon side there are swings and heavy impacts for medieval battles and fantasy games. On the work side, axes bite into wood for gathering and crafting in survival games.

An axe swing is slower and heavier than a Sword cut, so it wants a deeper whoosh with weight behind it. The swing sets run from small daggers to huge hammers, which makes it easy to match the weapon on screen. Then the hit. Combat gets melee impacts, with plenty of Gore for when the blow lands on someone. The quieter side has foley performed on a stage and axe hits into wood, for a woodcutting scene or a survival game where every tree comes down by hand. Keep the whoosh and the hit from the same family and the swing feels like it belongs to the arm.
