Snow Sound Effects

Snow sound effects for cold scenes, quiet or wild. Boots crunching through fresh powder. Skis carving turns down an alpine slope, with the lift humming behind. Snow settling and sliding, and bullets thudding into drifts. Storms battering at the windows from inside a warm room. Proper winter.

Snow is a tricky surface to get right. Fresh powder is soft and muffled, while packed snow squeaks underfoot. The footstep libraries cover snow alongside other ground, so a character can step off a road into a drift and keep the same weight. Ski recordings from the Alps add carving and powder runs for winter sports. Snow also changes a whole ambience, which the Winter backgrounds show well. It soaks up sound, so a snowy scene should feel quieter and closer than the same place in summer. Hold back the reverb.
