Reverse Sound Effects

Reverse sound effects in both senses. Sounds played backwards, like a reversed impact swelling up into a cut or a whoosh that sucks you into the next shot. Then vehicles going backwards, with supercars whining in reverse gear and a steam locomotive backing slowly down the line. Odd, and very useful.

A reversed sound builds instead of decaying, which is why it works so well as a lead-in. The tail arrives early and the attack lands right on the edit, pulling the viewer forward. Trailer and video editors use them constantly. The other kind of reverse is all gearbox. Reverse gear has a whine that's instantly recognisable, and it usually starts with a clunk from the Gearshift before the Exhaust kicks in. Parking scenes lean on it.
