Mortar Sound Effects

Mortar sound effects for the battlefield and the kitchen bench. On the military side, mortars and cannon fire at several distances and explosions go off in forests and quarries. On the quieter side, a mortar and pestle crushing herbs and grinding spices, recorded close. Very different jobs, same word.

The military mortars and cannon were recorded at several distances, so a shot can sit near the camera or far off across a field. The source libraries go further, with layered explosions captured in woods, built up areas and quarries, which gives each blast a real space around it. Sailing ship guns cover Cannon broadsides and chain shot, and designed artillery and Detonation sets add the heavier end. The pestle is gentler work. Stone scrapes on stone, herbs get crushed and spices ground, all of which suits an alchemist's bench as well as a kitchen.
