Moaning Sound Effects

Moaning sound effects, from the undead to the weather. Creatures and monsters groaning low in the dark, dinosaurs rumbling, wolves howling at nothing in particular. Human moans of pain, effort and plain misery. And the other kind, wind moaning softly through the trees, plus breathy whooshes with the same mournful shape. Gloomy stuff. Horror and fantasy both use plenty.

A moan sits somewhere between a breath and a voice, which is why it turns up in so many places. For creatures it's the slow Groan of something big and unhappy, often with a Growl layered in when it turns nasty. Dinosaur and monster sets cover the low end. The wolves add long mournful howls. Human recordings bring moans of pain for wounded characters, and a stadium crowd covers the sporting kind. Then there's the atmospheric side: wind and airy whooshes that moan without any voice at all. They suit haunted houses. Horror films and dark fantasy games use these all the time.
