Ferry Sound Effects

Ferry sound effects from around the world, onboard and from the quayside. Busy crossings and ferry interiors, most of them inside wider city and coast ambience sets. Then there's the oddball. A very old chain ferry, hauling itself across a river along a chain on the riverbed, with the rattle and engine recorded from several angles.

Most ferry scenes are about the crossing, and these recordings cover it from both sides: busy rides and ferry interiors on board, gulls and waves from the harbour. The city sets put ferries next to the Market, the metro and the streets, so a trip can start on land and finish on the water. There's working port life too, down to a shipyard. A Harbour ambience laid under a boat as it slows sells the arrival. The chain ferry is something else: rattling links, the drive wheels guiding the chain and a slow pull from bank to bank. It suits period drama and any small river crossing that needs character.
