Dinosaur Sound Effects

Dinosaur sound effects for creatures nobody has ever actually heard. Not even once. Huge roars that shake the floor, growls and snorts from the big hunters, softer calls from the plant eaters and squeaks from the babies. Flying reptiles screech overhead and sea monsters rumble below the surface. Since there's no real recording to match, all of these are educated, very loud guesses.

Film dinosaurs are built from living animals. Lots of them. The most famous movie roar mixed a baby elephant with an alligator and more besides, and most designers still start that way, layering elephants, big cats, birds and crocodiles until the result sounds old and enormous. Some scientists now think the big ones may have boomed with their mouths shut, more like an ostrich than a lion. Footsteps matter as much as the voice. A heavy stomp sells size before the creature opens its mouth, and the Reptile sets come in different sizes to match. More big voices live in Roar. Documentaries and survival games are where they end up.
