City Ambience Sound Effects

City Ambience sound effects for putting a whole town behind a scene. Busy streets and crossroads, the far-off hum of a city heard from a hillside, rooftops with vents droning and rain on the pavement. Subway rumbles, station platforms and pedestrian squares. Recorded across Europe and the Americas, so there's a city for most settings. Day and night, near and far.

A city ambience is mostly a question of distance. Close up, it's City Traffic, footsteps and voices you could almost pick out. Further back, it all blurs into a low wash with the odd siren or train poking through, which suits night scenes and establishing shots. The recordings here cover both ends, from loud intersections and busy pedestrian zones to cities heard from the hills, plus commuter stations and subway platforms. Some come as loops, ready to run under dialogue. Each country sounds a little different too, so a street in Serbia won't pass for New York. Film, TV and open-world games all lean on them.
