Carriage Sound Effects

Carriage sound effects, depending on what's pulling it. Horse carriages come with hooves on different surfaces, the harness and metal rattling as it rolls along. Train carriages are recorded from the inside, on a high-speed train and around busy stations. Then there's the typewriter carriage, moving across between lines of typing. Same word. It suits period dramas and rail journeys alike.

A horse carriage is a mix of hooves and hardware. The draft horse recordings were made both with and without the carriage, with microphones mounted on board and following behind, so a scene can have the whole rig or just the horse at a Trot. Creaking carriages and rattling harnesses turn up in the wider horse libraries as well. Rail is the bigger job. Long recordings run inside carriages and vestibules at different speeds, with exterior movements and station ambiences around them, so a journey can be cut from boarding to arrival. The typewriter carriage sits in a different world entirely, recorded alongside typing at different speeds.
