Description

Early gasoline powered engines ran on the same principles as the engines we see in vehicles and other machinery today, but sounded very different.

Many of these engines had a much slower rate of combustion, relying on the inertia of solid metal fly-wheels to maintain engine speed. This often meant you could easily hear the explosive combustion, along with the spinning fly-wheels and movement of small mechanical parts. The rate of combustion and functioning of each engine varied wildly, and each seems to have a unique character. The Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Association takes pride in restoring and maintaining these historical pieces.
