Writing Sound Effects

Writing sound effects for anything that scratches across paper. Pens and markers, with chalk on a board for the classroom. Lots of scribbling. The paper gets its own sounds too, handled and torn, and keyboards and typewriters cover writing of the clackier kind. It suits an exam hall as much as an explainer video where a hand draws across the screen.

Writing is a foley job that comes down to the tool, whether it's a Pencil or a quick Scribble with a marker. These libraries cover lots of different pens and papers, so the sound can match whatever is in the character's hand. Some of it was recorded on a proper foley stage. Chess game sounds include writing too, with pencil notes taken beside the board. For a writer at work, layer the pen with paper handling and the odd keystroke, and a quiet desk scene stops sounding empty.
