Wire Sound Effects

Wire sound effects, from a cable groaning under load to the moment it snaps. Steel wire struck and left to ring, wind whistling through taut wires at night, and the hum and crackle around power stations and radio masts. Strange and metallic. There's even a set of handmade wire toy cars being bent into shape and driven along the dirt.

Wire is a gift for sound design because it carries vibration so well. A long taut cable, hit with something hard, rings and sweeps in a way that reads straight away as sci-fi or horror. The tension recordings are the other half, with Cable and Rope creaking under load until they finally give way, which suits a lift about to drop or a bridge in trouble. For the electric side, the hum and interference around pylons and transmitters gets picked up close. Strain you can hear.
