Typewriter Sound Effects

Typewriter sound effects from old manual machines and electric ones with a motor humming underneath. Typebars striking the platen, switches, mechanical impacts and fast bursts of typing. Proper period kit. Much of it is recorded in the studio, alongside the other vintage desk gear that tends to share a scene, from rotary telephones to clocks and cameras.

A typewriter is a busy little machine. Every key is a lever that throws a typebar at the platen, and electric models add a motor and their own switches on top. Some recordings here follow a single machine with several microphones at once, from the mechanical impacts to rapid fire Typing, while others gather typewriters among antique props recorded in the studio. That mix is useful. A period office is never just a typewriter, and the Telephone and the clock can come from the same shelf. It suits period dramas, newsrooms, detective offices and spy films, and the modern office side has computer keyboards, printers and paper handling for when the story moves on.
