Traffic Sound Effects

Traffic sound effects from busy main roads to quiet back streets. Cars, vans, buses and motorbikes passing at speed on British roads, close enough to feel the draught. Then the traffic you hear from somewhere else, a distant hum through a classroom window or tyres hissing past on a wet night. Constant. Easy to ignore, until it stops.

Traffic is the bed most city scenes sit on, so it needs to be steady and believable without drawing the eye. A wash of distant cars works under dialogue. Close pass-bys do the opposite, punching through when a character steps off the kerb. The best results usually come from layering both, with a few individual vehicles placed where the picture needs them. Weather changes everything. On a wet road every tyre hisses, and the rain recordings here catch that from rural lanes to big cities. Indoors, traffic becomes a low rumble through glass, which is what the room tones carry. Add Walla for pavements full of people, or head down a busy Street for the full City mix. Few sounds say where you are faster.
