M4a1 Sound Effects

M4a1 sound effects, and a quick heads up: this is the tank, not the rifle. The wartime American tank that carried the name, with its big radial engine coughing into life, idling, driving and clanking over the ground. Its main gun is here too, fired with blanks, plus the foley around it. Heavy, old and very loud.

A Radial Engine sounds nothing like a modern tank. It's a rough, uneven roar, closer to an old aircraft than a truck, and it gives the M4a1 its character on screen. Add the squeal of the tracks and the clank of the hull and you've got wartime armour on the move. The cannon recordings are short and huge, with the foley around the breech. Heavier guns live in Artillery. Wider military vehicles sit alongside, for war films and games.
