Hoof Sound Effects

Hoof sound effects for walks, trots, gallops and jumps on just about any ground, from concrete and gravel to sand and grass. A big working horse is recorded with a carriage behind it and without. Other hooved animals turn up too, and so does the care side, with hoof cleaning and a farrier hammering at a shoe.

Hooves change with the ground more than almost anything. Concrete gives a sharp clop that echoes off walls, while grass turns a gallop into a soft, thudding roll. Match the surface, then the pace. A Trot bounces along evenly while a Gallop pounds. The carriage recordings add metal rattles and harness on top, from a microphone riding along or following behind. Back in the stable, farrier work and Saddle handling fill the quiet between rides. Continuous movement loops help in games, where a horse can't stop for an edit.
