Handling Sound Effects

Handling sound effects, the small noises of hands on things. Picking up. Putting down. Guns get the most attention here, with magazines going in and out and slides racked back hard, but there's plenty beyond that, from coins being counted out on a counter to an old cassette clicking into its player.

Handling is what makes an object feel real in someone's hands. A gun with no handling sounds like a toy, however big the shot. That's why weapon recordings treat the Magazine, the bolt, the safety and the Dry Fire click as carefully as the bang. In games those sounds play far more often than the shot itself, every time a player checks a weapon or reloads. Everyday handling is just as useful, with coins and treasure chests for loot, and old tapes and cameras for retro props. Foley editors stack these quietly under almost every scene.
