Granular Sound Effects

Granular sound effects in both senses of the word. There's granular synthesis, where a recording gets chopped into tiny grains and pieced back together as texture, and here it starts from wooden blocks and everyday objects. Then there's the literal kind, sand and dirt settling at different speeds. Grains you can actually hold.

The designed side is where granular earns its keep. A dry leaf or a coil hum gets stretched and scattered into something that moves, and those textures suit sci-fi and anything that needs to feel slightly off. Wood gives it a warmer, more organic start, and a violin bowed slow and hard gets grainy all on its own. Some of the robot and machine sounds come from Synthesis and electromagnetic recordings instead, closer to Glitch than to wood. The real grains are another job. Settling dirt and snow sit nicely under a collapse or debris coming to rest.
