Torture Sound Effects

Torture sound effects make the scenes people watch through their fingers. Screams and agonised cries from performers who really went for it, rattling shackles, power tools starting up in a cold room, and the wet close detail of cuts and breaking bone. Not for the squeamish. It belongs in horror films and the darker end of game audio.

A torture scene is mostly about what you don't see, so the sound carries it. Usually that's built in layers. Room tone and a creaking floor set up the dread. A shackle rattle or a power tool spinning up tells the audience what's coming. Then the voice lands it, and the vocal libraries run from strained grunts and groans to a full Scream, with more in Pain. The gore libraries handle the close detail: blade cuts, blood, breaking bone and wet choking, the sort of thing best kept just off camera. Some of the screams come distorted and broken up, for when it needs to tip into the supernatural.
