Locust sound effects mean different things depending on where you grew up. In much of the US, the summer drone people call locusts is really cicadas. Elsewhere it's a swarm, a thick crackling hum of wings moving together. Both are here, along with crickets, bees and the fields they live in. Biblical, if you need it.
What noise does a locust make? On its own, a dry rasp from rubbing a leg against a wing, much like a grasshopper, because a locust is a grasshopper that swarms. The American summer kind is really a Cicada, a different insect with a different sound. In a swarm the rasp disappears under the whirr of wings, and the Swarm recordings are the place for that. Horror and disaster films use that side most.
