Engine Room Sound Effects

Engine Room sound effects for the noisy heart of a ship, real or imagined. The real side has an old fishing trawler with its engine recorded from several perspectives, hydrophone included, plus a narrowboat and other boats. The imagined side has spaceship interiors and space stations. Then there's the quiet end, micro room tones next to vents and fans. Big or barely there.

On a real ship the engine room is loud, so most of the detail lives in the machinery. The trawler recordings cover the engine at different speeds with the mechanical changes between them, plus hydrophone takes, which suits fishing dramas and anything at sea. Micro Room Tone recordings go the other way. They catch the air inside an engine room, alongside freezer hum and dripping, and that suits a ship at night or a submarine running quiet. For sci-fi, the spaceship interiors make a fair reactor deck behind the dialogue.
