Digging Sound Effects

Digging sound effects by hand and by machine. Hand tools working through sand, dirt, gravel and grass, with plenty of scraping and pouring alongside. Bigger kit too. Excavators with their hydraulics and metal tracks, then coal mine machinery working underground, plus snow and ice for colder scenes.

Hand digging is a run of small moves: the blade going in, the lift, then the throw. The surface makes a big difference, so the recordings cover sand, dirt, gravel and grass separately, and the Scraping takes suit a slow, careful dig around something buried. Machines are another job. The Excavator recordings come from a real dig at a house, with the engine, the hydraulics and the bucket at work, and construction site ambiences give it a place to sit. Debris and wood impacts cover whatever gets turned up or knocked down along the way.
