Ballista Sound Effects

Ballista sound effects for the giant crossbow of the siege line. The winch cranking it back, the trigger lock letting go, then the heavy kick of the launch and a stone or fireball tearing past. Slow to load, quick to hurt. Around it sit the other siege engines and the fighting, from catapults and rams to sword impacts and castle doors.

A ballista shot is a little drama in itself: the slow mechanical build, the snap of release, a flyby, then the hit. Give the loading its own moment and the launch lands harder. The siege engine recordings were made from inside and outside the machines, with ram impacts on stone and wood and rolling loops for towers crossing cobbles and wooden bridges. Line it up with a Trebuchet or a Catapult and the whole siege is covered. They suit strategy games and historical battle scenes.
