Shing Sound Effects

Shing sound effects, that bright metallic ring of a blade leaving its sheath. The anime version is even sharper, a glint of sound when a sword catches the light. Very satisfying. Alongside it there are sword clashes and combat hits in the classic martial arts film style, plus real knife and sword foley for something less stylised.

A real blade drawn from a scabbard makes far less noise than films suggest. The famous shing is a cheat, usually a metal scrape with a bright ring layered on top, and it has become the standard screen sword draw. The Sword foley gives you the real scrape, while the anime and martial arts sets supply the stylised ring for a Kung Fu duel. Samurai standoffs love it.
