Manga Sound Effects

Manga sound effects, the noises a page can only write down, here as actual audio. Comic whooshes and pops, sudden dramatic hits for a shocked face, magical girl sparkles, laser blasts and power ups, plus Japanese voice reactions. Most of it has that classic anime feel, some of it deliberately old school. Exaggerated, as it should be.

In manga the sound is drawn: a big Japanese word across the panel, like dokan for an explosion or shiin for total silence. Turning a manga into a motion comic, an animation or a game means finding real sounds for those words, in the style the drawings already suggest. Some of these recreate the analogue character of older TV anime, others are cleaner and modern. For the cute end, Kawaii goes further, and spoken reactions sit in Japanese.
