jacobs board (2)Early gasoline powered engines ran on the same principles as the engines we see in vehicles and other machinery today, but sounded very different.

Many of these engines had a much slower rate of combustion, relying on the inertia of solid metal fly-wheels to maintain engine speed. This often meant you could easily hear the explosive combustion, along with the spinning fly-wheels and movement of small mechanical parts. The rate of combustion and functioning of each engine varied wildly, and each seems to have a unique character. The Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Association takes pride in restoring and maintaining these historical pieces.
