These were a great improvement, but you still had to look up the sounds you wanted, pull out each CD to audition, then record into your project. As the early 2,000s arrived, libraries were often delivered on hard drives and then stored locally and reviewed in a number of available search software packages. Then, sound effects could be found on online sites and searched, reviewed, and downloaded. That’s roughly where things are today. However, it still remains practical to maintain downloaded libraries as you have the sounds forever at no cost beyond the original purchase.
